Join our ‘Challenging the Crisis’ youth campaign: Apply by 13 March!

'Challenging the Crisis' is a three-year development education project engaging young people in highly-indebted EU countries (Greece, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain).

Currently, a network of “Young Global Advocates” (YGAs) across the 6 partner countries is in place, active both in their own country and at a European level. They have been working together for the past year and are now about to launch the 'Challenging the Crisis' campaign on 'Social and Solidarity Economy' . We are currently recruiting new activists to this youth network in Ireland.

At this stage, we want to enlarge our diverse group of young adults in Ireland (aged 16–30) who:

• will create and implement a youth-led campaign with other young people in Italy, Greece, Portugal, Slovenia and Spain between now and the end of the Project in April 2016 (at least). Watch the video to hear them explain our campaign.

• will come together in Dublin regularly (travel costs will be provided).

• will be supported by IDEA and other organisations to implement their own actions related to the campaign with their own communities, friends, colleges, workplace, organisations etc. (activities will be discussed jointly with IDEA)

We are currently recruiting both:

i) members of the wider 'Challenging the Crisis' activists' network

(young people who will attend campaign events, be active on social media, bring campaign to your own organisation/network, attend meeting in Dublin twice per year) and

ii) members of the core group of 'Young Global Advocates' (YGAs)

(young people who will be active as above plus communicate with YGAs in other countries via our online platforms, contribute to the campaign website, represent the Project at external events, attend monthly meetings in Dublin, plan campaign events, possibly travel abroad)

You can apply to join our network in Ireland NOW – apply here by 13 March 2015. Questions? Contact us: youth@ideaonline.ie

At the end of March, IDEA staff and representatives from three IDEA members travelled to Riga, Latvia, for a two-day event marking the launch of IDEA’s Erasmus+ project with our partner LAPAS (Latvian Platform for Development Cooperation) focused on the IDEA Code of Good Practice The project’s core objective is to enhance the quality of global citizenship education (GCE) at local , national and European levels. Central to this work is the creation of a Code of Good Practice for Latvia based on learning from the IDEA Code that will support Latvian GCE practitioners, including teachers, NGOs, youth workers and others, by fostering a common understanding and approach to GCE. This represents the first piloting of the IDEA Code in an international context. The new IDEA task group for the project, made up of Code members, alongside IDEA staff, are supporting LAPAS members to adapt the Code for the Latvian national context by sharing our own experiences and learnings from the Code and GCE in Ireland. The event in Riga was the first in-person gathering of the project, bringing together LAPAS and IDEA members. This face-to-face interaction allowed us to begin the process of knowledge exchange, and mutual learning which will spread the Code’s reach and strengthen our GCE practice. IDEA was represented in Riga by Dean Oke (CDYS (Cloyne Diocesan Youth Service), Georgina Eastaugh (Concern Worldwide) and Claire Glavey (Global Village), alongside IDEA staff Elaine and Aine.
